Jazz Fest is the only large music festival in the world where the dominant scent is fried shrimp. Not that there aren’t plenty of folks smoking weed, enough so that you’ll get a blast of it in your face if the breeze is right; it’s just that, in New Orleans, the food—the po-boys and jambalaya, the seafood plates and gumbo—is better than pot. Spend some time following locals on Twitter when the Fest is happening and you’ll discover food is the dominant topic of conversation—not the sex, not the drugs, not even the rock ‘n roll.
